Clinical Training Program

The ¹û¶³´«Ã½Ö±²¥ Wellness Center offers a 9-month, practicum/externship training program for up to 18 hours per week for students who are enrolled in an accredited PhD/PsyD program in Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Masters’ level trainees with previous supervised psychotherapy training will be considered.

This externship placement can serve as an excellent training opportunity for trainees looking for a secondary/supplemental training experience. The Wellness Center cannot always offer the number of clinical hours necessary to fulfill requirements for primary externships. Yet we can still be a strong option for students interested in accumulating additional clinical hours without the same time commitment as a primary externship.

About the Wellness Center:
The mission of the Wellness Center is to support the academic goals of the University by assisting students with medical and psychological challenges. Psychological services are both remedial (crisis intervention, assessment and referral, and psychotherapy) and preventive (workshops and outreach programming). The Wellness Center provides a warm, caring, professional environment for both patients and staff.

Types of Clients Seen:
The client population seen at the Wellness Center reflects the diversity of the student body in terms of race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and social class. Clients present with a variety of psychological concerns commonly having to do with anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and academic stress. Our clients are generally traditionally aged, undergraduate students.

Training Opportunities:

Training places the greatest emphasis on individual psychotherapy, outreach, and individual supervision. Depending on the clinical programming in the Wellness Center in any given year, training can also provide opportunities for crisis intervention, group therapy, workshops, case consultation and didactic instruction.
