Make a Positive Impact on a New Generation

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE

¹û¶³´«Ã½Ö±²¥â€™s education programs are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

A teacher is a student’s strongest pillar. At Stevenson, learn the foundations of effective planning, classroom management, and assessment of student learning. Beginning in the first year, you’ll have on-site field experience in diverse school environments. And as you advance through the program, you’ll be ready to gradually assume the roles and responsibilities of a classroom teacher.

Want to go the extra mile? Our Bachelor’s to Master’s Option allows you to graduate with a master’s in as little as five years.

Graduates of the Elementary Education program will:

  • Apply knowledge of discipline content and content-related pedagogy to design and implement effective instruction for all learners.
  • Use knowledge of diverse students to design instruction and create a culturally responsive, equitable environment to support achievement for all learners.
  • Design and implement instruction that engages students, encourages student participation, promotes higher-level thinking, and supports instructional outcomes.
  • Design and implement assessment that monitors student learning, provides purposeful feedback on progress, and furnishes evidence to inform instruction.
  • Reflect on teaching, collaborate in a professional learning community, seek professional development opportunities, engage in inquiry, persist toward goals, and exhibit integrity and professionalism.

Centered on Student Success

The School of Education offers Professional Development Workshops for its teacher-candidates—as we call our education majors—that take into account their input. The workshops include “power talks” on practical topics for beginning teachers presented by local teachers, Education faculty, and Stevenson alumni.
