Military Leave

Military leave is granted to any employee who is a member of the U.S. Uniformed Services as defined by the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA). Employees are paid their regular salary for the time they are absent up to a maximum of two weeks in any fiscal year. The employee must submit a copy of all official military orders and a written request for a leave of absence to Human Resources prior to the beginning of the leave. If military leave is extended, copies of all military orders must be submitted as soon as feasibly possible to Human Resources and as updated prior to the employee鈥檚 return to work.

If an individual is called to active duty, the University may grant an unpaid leave not to exceed one year, although an extension may be granted if an individual is involuntarily retained in active service. Employees on active duty may continue health benefits at their own expense up to 24 months. Upon return from active duty, the employee may be entitled to reinstatement to the same or an equivalent position of employment at the University, also in accordance with USERRA. For more information, contact Human Resources.
